Introduction

ROI shows the return on investment achieved by using System Frontier.

ROI Dashboard

The ROI Dashboard takes information from the built-in tasks and Custom Tools and provides real-time data on how much money is being saved from a labor perspective by automating tasks through System Frontier.

You can view and compare actions, hours and dollar savings from today, the current month, last month, the monthly average, and the year to date. You can also select a previous year and display the monthly average and year-to-date information.

Settings > ROI Report Settings

In order for the ROI Dashboard to display correct numbers, you must configure ROI settings. Navigate to the ROI Report Settings page under Settings. You can set the blended hourly rate, edit or delete action mappings, filter the mappings, set the number to show per page, as well as sort by column.

The ROI Calculation

The ROI calculation is based on the Blended Hourly Rate times the manual time to complete a task. Two bits of information are needed:

  1. Blended Hourly Rate
  2. Manual Time to complete a task

Blended Hourly Rate

Located in the top left of the page is the Blended Hourly Rate. Set this rate to be the average hourly rate of pay for the personnel who are running the tasks. The same rate is used for all calculations.

Blended Hourly Rate

Manual Time to complete a task

A Manual Time in seconds will need to be entered into the Action Mapping for each task. See Creating an Action Mapping for ROI below.

Manual Time is calculated by subtracting the time it takes System Frontier to do the task from the time it takes a user to do the task without System Frontier.

Determining the Manual Time for a task

For example, if a task takes 5 minutes to complete (300 seconds) without using System Frontier and System Frontier can do the same task in 30 seconds, you would enter 270 in the Manual Time to complete in seconds.

The default value for the Manual time to complete a task is 60 seconds. This value will need to be modified in accordance with your own local factors.

Calculating the ROI

This calculation is done automatically. Basically, the ROI equals the Blended Hourly Rate times the Manual Time.

The ROI calculation for a single task

The complete calculation is determined from that Manual Time, the Blended Hourly Rate, and the number of times that task is run. If a Custom Tool is running against a list of computers and the Manual Time represents the time it would take a person to run that tasks individually on a computer, then the number of computers in the list also becomes a factor in calculating the Total ROI.

The Total ROI Calculation
Custom tools in the following categories will not have their usage calculated nor applied to ROI totals : Preprocessor, Library, Example, SFSA.

Creating an Action Mapping for ROI

An Action Mapping is automatically generated for ROI when a Custom Tool is created. So, there’s no need to create a new one every time you build a new Custom Tool. However, you will still need to adjust the Manual Time.

In addition, you can also create a new mapping with any Filter you want. If you would like to get ROI for a group of Custom Tools that all have the word “User” in the name, you could create a new Action Mapping with that Filter to retrieve those results.

To create a new Action Mapping, navigate down to the bottom of the ROI Report Settings page, fill in the fields, and click Save.

Editing an Action Mapping for ROI

When you click the Edit button, the Edit link changes to Update and the Name, Manual time to complete in seconds, and Filter all become editable.

Editing an Existing Action Mapping

Make any changes needed and click Update to modify an existing Action Mapping.

Deleting an Action Mapping for ROI

Click on the Delete link beside an Action Mapping in order to delete it.

Navigating to ROI Settings from a Custom Tool

You can also click on the ROI Reporting link within the edit page for a Custom Tool and it will take you to the ROI Report Settings page. Use the filter to find the Custom Tool once on that page.
